The Gurijala Edge. Early Mentoring Program (EMP)

Gurijala Services Executive Team has spent time with our students and our clients listening to the good and the bad of Graduate experiences. We have identified one of the major issues facing new graduates is the lack of "real world" training. Often with graduates, their first appointment after university is their very first job, this can be quite daunting for young students.

Gurijala Services introduced the Early Mentoring Program (EMP), this takes an undergrad in their 2nd or 3rd year and places them in a host organisation (similar to an intern) to provide on the job training while they are completing their qualification. The idea behind the EMP is to provide comparable experiences for graduates as those that trades apprentices are exposed to. The students on the EMP are engaged on a casual basis and work in the host organisation in areas relative to their fields of study. These students can be engaged directly by the host organisation or via the Gurijala Employment Transitioning Services (GETS). We feel our EMP will assist in closing this gap and provide the graduate with confidence and deliver a launching platform to transition from academia to the workforce.
